Updates

So yep, I haven't been blogging all that much because I've mostly been playing Guild Wars 2 and spent the last three weeks hanging out with my sister. Now that she's gone back to college, I thought I'd slowly try getting into the swing of things again.

I know I said I would *try* to finish my Throne of Glass deconstruction, but apparently there are limits to my masochism. Also, I found someone else who deconstructed the book, so if anyone's curious about how the book turns out, there's that. I think I'll start posting up a Shadow and Bone deconstruction instead, since as far as I know no one's covered that book. Though I should leave a warning that right now SaB is tied with ToG for book I hate the most, so there's a possibility that I'll ragequit again.

Comic yammerings

AKA, since I fell behind on my reviews, here are thoughts on comic issues for the last three weeks.

Teen Titans #26

So I was looking forward to learning about Bart Allen's past, but it actually turned out to be really dull. It was pretty cliché, blah blah, oppressive regime, brutally murdered Bar Tor's parents, Bar becomes a revolutionary, ends up doing some morally gray things. Nothing fresh at all. Also, they introduced Bar's sister, only to fridge her. Bleh.

I was okay with them changing up his origin in the New 52, but now I really want them to go back and have him be the descendent of Barry Allen again. :(

Batwoman #26

So...we got some more LGBT+ representation, which is good. But Batwoman (and Hawkfire) seemed to have lost their badassitude, which is sad. Also, I just can't really get used to the new artist. In comparison to JH Williams, Haun's artwork and paneling seem rather dull and dour.

Aquaman #26

This was my favorite issue of the week. We got Arthur being badass! Mera being badass! Arthur and Mera being badass together!! I mean, what more could you ask for? Also, that cliffhanger ending was killer, and I'm super interested in learning how everything is going to play out.

Earth 2 #19

So I've been liking Earth 2 a lot recently. Usually a series like this would be too grimdark for my taste, but I'm just fascinated about this new (ish) band of superheroes and seeing how everything plays out. It was pretty surprising to learn that Aquawoman was neither Mera nor a female Arthur Curry, but rather an original character. (She's totally just as badass as Arthur and Mera though, which is awesome.) And Hawkgirl came back! And Green Lantern isn't dead (phew)!!

I hope we learn more about Red Arrow (is he, like, a cross between Roy Harper and Oliver Queen?) and dangit, I want more of Captain Steel. One thing that bothers me, though, is that despite the death of the Holy Trinity, Batman and Superman have both sort-of returned, while Wonder Woman is still flat-out dead. Sigh.

Detective Comics #27/Gothtopia

This issue was pretty cool. I especially liked the Gothtopia short, which immediately made me go out hunting for the various Gothtopia tie-in issues this month. So far, they've been hella creepy, but also pretty fascinating with the whole "alternate reality" thing going on.

Justice League 3000 #2

Still not really sure what to make of this series, but one thing I can say for sure is that I'm falling in love with the art style so hard. The rendering of Green Lantern's (willpower?) cape especially was delightful to look at.
