Once Upon a Time - Season 1 Finale
Hmm.
I've had an odd relationship with OUAT. At the beginning, I was lukewarm toward it, but then liked it more and more once I saw their reinterpretations of fairy tales. But toward the end of the season, my enthusiasm for it cooled off again, and I can't really explain why.
Certainly, the last episode didn't leave me gasping and mindblown as some other episodes did. I think it was because of Regina. I know the show tries to humanize her and explain why she's "evil," but I feel like they're overdoing it. Giving her all those emotional scenes, even though I believe--and I thought the show believed--that it isn't what happens to you in the past that makes you "evil," it's how you react to what happened to you.
Also, WTF at the ending? I have no idea what's going to happen next. Yay for the reappearance of Belle and Jefferson, but did Jefferson's machinations really get back at Regina? Because Regina was actually smiling when she saw the purple cloud of DOOM. I fear for Rumpelstiltskin's sanity/redemption, and...is it me, or is Sidney Glass also locked up in the mental ward now? Also, is August alive or dead? D:
Even though the ending left me underwhelmed, I still love some of the episodes in Season 1 ("Snow Falls," "Skin Deep," "What Happened to Frederick," "Hat Trick"...). I'm hopeful enough that I'll continue to watch Season 2, but I don't really have any idea of what to expect, and I hope some of the dangling plot threads get resolved. There are the ones I already mentioned in the finale, and also, does Kathryn meet her true love? How do Snow, Charming, and Emma now interact with each other? What's going to happen with Regina and Rumpelstiltskin? Jefferson?? (Who, if anything, has proven himself the definite wild card of the series, though I hope we get to see more of Wonderland...Plus, Paige/Grace??)
If the curse has been broken, though, what's going to happen to all the fairy tale characters now, and what about any new ones who are introduced next season?
Bleh. Too many questions.
