Review - White Cat by Holly Black
Well, I was intrigued enough by the basic premise to read to the end. That counts for something. And the idea of an alternate-reality Earth that's the same, except for the existence of curses and curse-workers, was interesting.
Having said that, the "big reveal" that the story relied on was pretty obvious from early on. That, and the ending was one of those "looks like the main character's going to get everything he wants...but NO, Life Is Not a Happy Ending, he can't get everything he wants."
Also, I didn't find any of the characters particularly interesting. True, I wanted to know what happened to them, but as soon as everything was over, I found myself not caring anymore. Cassel is boring. His brothers are cliché. The mob members have stereotypical motivations. Etc.
