It's that time of the year again...
...when a new Assassin's Creed is announced.
And this time, it's finally ACIII!
Awesome pictures here
I really can't gush enough about how excited I am. Granted, a new AC always gets me excited because I'm a history nerd, and history + video games = sheer awesome, but after 3 consecutive Ezio games, it's definitely time for a change. And here we have the American Revolution, an event not often covered in video games, with a protagonist (Connor) who's half-English and half-Mohawk. Excited yet??
I've heard a few people complain about Connor's Assassin outfit looking out of place in the time period. But to be honest, when have the Assassins ever looked like they fit? They always wear white, which is a surefire way to stand out in a crowd. It would have been odd not to have Connor wearing the signature white hoodie by this point. But, aside from that, if you look closely, his outfit does seem like an adapted American military uniform.
Example of an American Revolutionary War uniform
This picture's not the greatest, but you can sort of tell there's two vertical lines of buttons going down the coat, which the picture of Connor also shows. The blue trim on his white coat is a callback to the actual blue soldier uniform, and he's also wearing what looks like a vest underneath the coat, just like the picture of the American soldier. The cuff of the right sleeve also has a similar button pattern to the military uniform. The boots and gauntlet are more unusual, but then again, it's probably a reminder of Connor's Native American background.
...There's also the fact that many of the screenshots so far depict the winter, in which case an Assassin would blend in better than a blue-and-red-attired soldier. Nicely placed, Ubisoft.
(You can tell I have too much time on my hands. OTL)
Even though ACIII isn't out yet, I'm hoping Ubisoft will do tons of AC spin-off games featuring locations that haven't been used yet. It would be cool, for example, to have something set in China, and follow the story that they sort of started in AC: Embers. Or the American Civil War! Even if it kind of repeats ACIII's locations, man, I'd love to see the Civil War. I doubt they'd do any location/historical event in the twentieth century, because by then the Assassins would probably have started to substitute sniping for the hidden-blade-stab, and I also doubt they'd go as far or farther back than the first AC, but in between are so many cool possibilities!
