Pretty Thought Provoking
Nov. 6th, 2012 10:36 pmMen directed 85% of TV shows last season
Points of interest:
- I'm surprised that Leverage is on the Directing Hall of Shame. It's a show that has been consistently pretty good with its portrayal of women and people of color, as far as I can tell.
- I'm (somewhat) surprised Nikita has hired only 5% women/PoC. It's a very female-centric, female-empowered show from what I've heard...but I can't quite shake off the thought that the shots of scantily clad/improbably dressed women were also meant to appeal to men.
- Some fairly female-centric/female-empowered shows have low rates of hiring women/PoC. (Once Upon a Time: 5%; Rizzoli & Isles: 13%; Revenge: 14%) Hmm.
- Supernatural is also on the Directing Hall of Shame.
