Beauty and the Beast...

I watched the pilot episode of this series way back when (e.g. last fall). I kind of liked the way it was pro-women (female cop lead! female friendship focus!), but thought the romance was kind of cheesy so I stopped after the third episode, partly because I had a lot of other TV shows to watch.

Flash forward to recent times. I'd always been curious about the show and I dropped Arrow after, in spite of its suspense and all, it failed to hold my interest. So I caught up with nine episodes yesterday while I was snowed in my room.

I like it a lot! While I'm still not a fan of romantic plot tumors, there's a voice in the back of my head that I shut off so I can just enjoy the ride. Romantic tumors aside, I can enjoy a romance as well as the next person when it's well done. And yes, I have always had a soft spot for romances between the tough, no-nonsense girl and the angsty guy.

I like the way the show realistically portrays the toll it takes to keep secrets from people, and the difficulty of having a relationship with a person with...well...issues. I love the way that Cat and Vincent both protect each other and have a pretty balanced relationship; I love that despite Cat's traumatic background, which is usually prime Broken Bird material, she's primarily a badass. And so far the relationship hasn't wandered into wangst territory, which is impressive. (Also, JT is hilarious. Gotta love the snarky nerd type.)

My only worry is that this show might get cancelled after one season because it hasn't had the most viewership...possibly because it's a romance-oriented pro-feminist show. *sobsob*

So now, the shows that I've been following are: Once Upon a Time, Do No Harm, Elementary, Beauty and the Beast, and possibly Scandal.

EDIT: Never mind, "Do No Harm" was cancelled already after 2 episodes....
