Twisted - Season 1 so far
Sep. 18th, 2013 06:37 pmJust finished watching the first half of season 1.
I love that 2 of the 3 leading characters are PoC. And so far, the mystery has been really compelling and unexpected, so I'll probably continue watching.
With that said, there were things that I had major problems with.
1. Heterosexism, by which I mean "no girl and guy can be in a relationship without it being romantic & sexual." (There was 1 gay couple featured very briefly in one episode, which I appreciated, but other than that all of the relationships have been heterosexual, too.) I hate the complicated love triangles and love dodecahedrons that are happening because NO GUY & GIRL CAN BE IN A RELATIONSHIP WITHOUT IT BEING ROMANTIC & SEXUAL. I'm really sick of this (and this is one of the reasons why I love Elementary so much by comparison).
2. Representation of "nerd" culture. Rico & Jo were the only "normal" "nerdy" characters, and that's because they're main characters; the other two nerd characters are walking clichés, complete with the thick glasses and awkward social skills and all. I'm sick of "smart' people being represented this way. There was also the scene in which Jo makes fun of a bunch of film club people who are analyzing a film, which made me really uncomfortable, because it's not stupid or meaningless to analyze films that way.

Currently following/waiting for:
- Sleepy Hollow S1
- Elementary S2
- Legend of Korra S2
- Teen Wolf S3B
- Twisted S1
Catch up:
- Scandal S2?
- Beauty and the Beast S1?
