Weekly comic thoughts
Feb. 20th, 2014 07:04 amBatwoman #28
Well this is the first issue in a while in which a lot of things happened, and I like the PTSD angle and look forward to where that will lead to, but generally my interest in this series/plotline is just waning a lot.
Loki: Agent of Asgard #1
I'm late to the party, but oh, this is fun. I highly recommend reading the All-New Marvel NOW! Point One issue, which is the prologue to Agent of Asgard. But this issue is great. It has Loki finally on the side of good (well, for now), funny hijinks with the Avengers, a touching Loki-Thor bro-moment, sexy Loki singing "The Wizard and I" in the shower, and damn good art, what more could you want?
Thor: Season One
To be honest, I have no idea what this is. I stumbled across it and decided to read it, but I have no idea whether it's part of Marvel NOW! or some kind of official Thor AU or...nah, no idea.
This issue is great for Thor fans (although, I'm guessing, not if you're a continuity purist). I liked the way Thor's character was written, his fondness for Loki, and his struggles as Donald Blake, which I thought were particularly touching. (And the way Donald Blake lampshaded the way the Asgardians talk was hilarious.)
On the other hand, it's terrible for Loki fans. Here we have Loki back to being a one-dimensional villain (why? It's never explained, just implied that when Loki realized he was a jötunn he turned evil...some unfortunate implications there...), and he doesn't have any particularly interesting schemes, either.
Currently following:
DC: Batman, Detective Comics, Green Arrow, Earth 2, Aquaman, The Flash, Justice League 3000, Batwoman, Teen Titans
Marvel: Ms. Marvel, Loki: Agent of Asgard
Other: TMNT (IDW)
