Green Arrow #29

Well, we all know that Oliver isn't dead, so the only question is WTF happened in that last scene.

Overall, great stuff. I really enjoyed seeing Diggle, and I think Onyx's coloring has been updated so she's no longer whitewashed (I hope?). Emiko seems fairly psychopathic, but I'd really like it if Oliver gets her a therapist and they start building a sibling relationship.


Earth 2 #21

We're back to grimdarkness and destruction. Atom lost an arm, that's a major ouch.

I'm really wondering how long this Evil!Superman arc is going to last, because I'm already getting tired of it. It's just super violent and pretty cynical, and also I want Green Lantern to come back soon. :(


Iron Man #22

Why am I reading this series. Seriously, why. Well, I'm definitely dropping it for good after this issue, because it's just godawful. Lady in a skintight suit gets drawn in the most gratuitous of poses, and then she ends up with her hands chopped off at the end of this issue, UGH. The violence in this issue was ridiculous.


Moon Knight #1

The art for this series is gorgeous, really love the ink washes and the stylized colorization, but I'm not sold on the story yet. I'll probably give it a few more issues at least, because the art really is super pretty, but I'm feeling pretty meh towards the protagonist right now.


Loki: Agent of Asgard #2

This was more of a fun filler issue, but it's still pretty hilarious and great. ("Why are you in the punch?!") I really enjoy Verity Willis's character and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing her in the future. Also, is Loki pulling a double bluff with Lorelei??? God, I hope so, that's going to be so fun to see.


Talon

Talon was excellent for the first 7 issues (Snyder's run). A quirky tortured hero! A WoC love interest who's both a badass and a genius! An interesting premise! ...And then after Snyder's run, everything went to hell really fast. Mostly because said WoC love interest was tortured and ended up losing limbs and organs, which was incredibly off-putting.


I read a few issues of Secret Avengers and All-New Invaders to see how Bucky's doing in Marvel NOW!, but I found the issues pretty disappointing. They just seemed to lack...I don't know...heart somehow; everything felt incredibly empty.

There's a lot that I hate about Arrow right now, but let me tell you some of the things I hate the most.

I hate the fact that Oliver Queen is a lying, hypocritical douchebag who has no capacity for empathy, yet we're supposed to root for him and believe he's on a hero's journey.

I hate the fact that they took Black Canary, who in the comics was (at least preboot) a badass woman who was also overall pretty well-adjusted, and turned her into a Broken Bird badass.

I hate the fact that they took Dinah Laurel Lance and Oliver Queen, who had a sweet and loving relationship in the comics (pre-New 52), and make them the most messed up couple in the history of television.

I also hate the fact that the current Green Arrow comic series apparently took cues from the TV show, but Oliver Queen in the comics is VASTLY superior because he is capable of basic empathy.
