1 week till release! WHOO! (...Even though I won't be able to read it for at least a week. Dang. :( )

Today's character release is Hazel Levesque. And, as usual, debates are raging all over the net about her godly parent.

So the two dominant theories right now (assuming her parent has to be either Pluto, Minerva, or Mars) are between Pluto and Minerva. Ceres has been suggested a lot, but again, I'm going off the assumption that the remaining three demigods of the Great Prophecy are the children of the three above.

Now, personally I'm for Mars, but I think the evidence points to either Minerva or Pluto. I'm hoping it's not Pluto, mostly because I'm really really hoping for Nico di Angelo to be part of the Great Prophecy. I mean, he's powerful and awesome! Moreover, not that I have anything against Annabeth (really!), but the Great Prophecy features the seven strongest demigods of the generation, and so far, unlike Percy, Jason, Leo and Piper, Annabeth doesn't seem to have any extra-special powers. Unless Rick Riordan has been holding back on us, or is going to pull a retcom (nah, I have enough faith in his storytelling to disgard that idea).

So. Minerva vs. Pluto for Hazel's godly parent, and the evidence for each:

Pluto
- It's specifically mentioned (on the UK site) that Hazel has eyes "like 14 karat gold." Pluto is the god of wealth.
- Hazel's horse, Arion, eats gold. (In other words, more connections to the "wealth" motif.)
- Thanatos's eyes are gold(ish).
- Hazel moved from New Orleans to Alaska and misses the sun. This seems to be a reenactment of the Persephone myth (which isn't directly related to Pluto, but oh well).
- Hazel can manipulate the dirt. Hades kids have geokinesis.
- Some people are saying her surname, Levesque, means "judge" in Old French. (Personally, I thought it meant bishop/overseer.) Pluto was the judge of the dead.

Minerva
- The hazel tree is associated with wisdom.
- Some people are saying her surname, Levesque, means "judge" in Old French. (Personally, I thought it meant bishop/overseer.) Judges = wisdom.
- Hazel gets seasick. Athena was not on friendly terms with Poseidon.

So...yeah. The only strikes against Hazel being a daughter of Pluto that I can think of right now are the Pact of the Big Three (which I'm going to assume carried over from the Greek side, because otherwise that wouldn't make much sense...unless Hazel was also frozen in agelessness/a time warp like Nico), as well as Rick Riordan's insistence on everything being a surprise. Looking at it right now, it seems that Hazel being a daughter of Pluto would be the most obvious answer, so that's not surprising at all. It also seems obvious that Frank is a son of Mars, so that doesn't seem to be it, either.

WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE!

Holy Edit: Mars is not only the god of war...but also of agriculture.

...I think Mars may be a contender after all!

Moreover, Hazel's stallion is being mentioned as a treasure of the Amazons. At least one of the Amazon queens, Hippolyta, was a daughter of Ares.

Hmm!
