Recently I've been dealing with a massive writer's block, and also I've been having a lot of trouble with my other blog, RS, so I've been thinking about what sorts of things to post here, as I'd like to blog a bit more frequently and more systematically (not just random fansquee posts, though of course those will probably stick around).

- I'll look back over Throne of Glass and see if I can continue my deconstruction, since heck, I'm kind of close to done with the book and leaving things hanging bothers me a bit. But of course, it might be that just looking at the book makes me ragequit again.

- I'll start posting a deconstruction of Shadow and Bone, another YA fantasy book that infuriated me with its terrible worldbuilding and horrible treatment of female characters.

- I think I'll try posting reviews of comics, though I'm not sure whether I'll have anything important to say or whether I'll just be like "this was great!" "This was meh."

- I'll also try writing more articles about feminist/intersectional issues related to pop culture.

Speaking as someone who didn't read comics until DC's New 52, I'm actually a fan of the idea of rebooting continuities. I do understand that they can lead to problematic reinterpretations of characters or erasure of character history, but the idea behind the reboot, of making characters with long histories accessible to new readers, is a good one, in my opinion. I certainly find it hard to get into the older comics and origin stories, yet it's often pretty confusing to jump in without even a vague idea of a character's background. Which has mostly been my experience with Marvel so far.

And now let me talk about Spider-Man 2099.

I really, REALLY wish they could reboot this series or redraw it for a modern audience. I read the first ten issues of Spider-Man 2099 and loved it a lot. Miguel O'Hara is a great protagonist, full of hilarious witty banter but also complex and dynamic. (Not to mention he's biracial.) His relationship with his family is similarly complicated and interesting. And the setting of 2099 New York is the posterchild for artistically striking dystopian cityscape.

Sigh...
