GW2 HoT: Thoughts so far

- So far, I've only played the Reaper and Chronomancer (though I haven't gotten enough Hero Points for either, so I'm missing a bunch of utilities and traits). Reaper is quite fun—I love feeling like a badass killing machine. I dunno if I've gotten the hang of Chronomancer yet, but the wells are cool.
- I did mess briefly with Daredevil, but Daredevil/Thief still feels too glass cannon for me to enjoy. I'll get to Dragonhunter, Tempest, and Druid eventually, but no rush yet (thankfully, because I'm not looking forward to grinding MORE Hero Points). Scrapper and Berserker have no appeal for me, but I guess I'll try them out at some point (since I have an empty character slot).
- I've tried Revenant, and...it hasn't really clicked for me. I think it's because the profession feels very "gimicky" to me; all other professions have a special mechanic, but the Revenant's "special mechanic" is that, essentially, it can change role (condi damage, tank, healer, DPS). The thing is...other professions already have a great balance of DPS/heal, and condi if you spec for it, so I don't see much point in taking a Legend that can only specialize in one role at a time. Also, Herald is apparently so overwhelmingly useful that it's always better to be Herald, meaning the other legend will probably be either Jalis or Shiro, so there's actually not a ton of build variety. (By which I mean, I usually hang out in 1 DPS build for my characters, but I at least have fun playing with other builds/weapons from time to time. By contrast, I just don't see any incentive to play with the Legends setup/build for Revenant, since condi damage is only necessary for certain world bosses [only Triple Trouble in Central Tyria; not sure about the HoT maps] and pure healer isn't necessary except in group content/raids specifically.)
- Gliding is fun and cool, but grinding for Mastery EXP is SUCH A PAIN. I swear it feels like I have to spend most of my time grinding EXP, which is not how I like to roll.
- Story (up to end of Act I): Eir dying was such a WTF moment because it was executed so incredibly poorly...and Faolain's death had no impact at all. At least if Faolain had died in front of Caithe, there might be some emotional angst, but instead there's just nothing.
Overall, I'm glad I didn't pay full price for HoT. I love my new Reaper, but it's too grindy and most of the content doesn't interest me enough to justify the $50 price tag.
I am looking forward to Living World Season 3, though...hopefully it'll be a nice change of pace from Grind Wars 2.
