Untitled queer vampire romance story: 10k words / 50k?? words

As the title says: Apparently This Is A Thing. Despite all of my doubts about marketability and using this book to launch a "real" writing career, and also the fact that by nature, this book feels way less "serious" than my first novel.

Basically, there are two ways to describe this book:

(1) A queer romance between an autistic Chinese vampire hunter and a demisexual vampire from the 1920s/30s, because apparently I'm a huge sucker for the enemies-to-lovers trope, and also this book is 50% spite in response to poor representations of autistic characters in genre romance, 50% my anger at ableism in general.

OR

(2) In which I suddenly decided it would be fun to explore how vampires and vampire hunters would "work" in the real world, complete with bureaucracy, vampire support groups, vampire rights groups and all.

I think this project has come along the furthest of all the ideas I've pitched to myself since I finished "Project E" because it also has a mystery-ish plot, and a fairly coherent one. My biggest worries in terms of not being able to finish it is that I'm generally very driven by theme and character arc(s), and right now this book's themes/character arcs are slightly less clear than E's.

Now, about estimated word count. Right now, my very tentative projection for this untitled thing is 50k words, just because that's the technical minimum for a novel. However, after looking back at my blog entries when I was writing E, I realized that I am hilariously bad at estimating total word counts (E literally went from "maybe longer than 20k words" to "wtf 60k words and I'm still not done" to "how long is this freaking thing going to be???"). So...yeah, very tentative estimate.

Also, for the first time in a seriously really freaking long time, I think this book has a series potential. Just because, when you take the grounded approach of bureaucracy, consequences, multiple interest groups, and policy issues, there is actually a ton to explore. But, well...we'll have to wait and see.

(*Random side note: Right now, I'm aware of one other vampire x vampire hunter romance story in the MM genre, the Sanguine series by Lou Harper, but I'm fairly confident that my untitled book will be different enough from that one despite a similar enemies-to-lovers framework. If anyone cares, at least.)
