Novel #4: 27k words / 40k?
I really, really need to get my Novel #3 revisions done today, as well as run some errands. Plus, I woke up a bit tired because I've been sleeping late the past few days, so not sure how much I can write today. I think I'm close to the point at which I need to start doing some major structural edits to make the mystery make sense.
On the plus side, now that I'm close to 30k words, it's clear that the story will be longer than that. But, again, I'm not sure how long it will eventually be. 40k words is my new estimate for now, which would still put the story in novella range. If I do reach 50k, I'll try very hard to make it to 60k so this can be pitched as a novel.
I'm leaning heavily toward taking the week of Thanksgiving off so I can work on this book; I feel like I need a big chunk of time (without chores/errands looming over my head) to do the structural revisions before I can push to finish the first draft.
On another note, I keep thinking about another of my stories—a science fantasy story that I actually put on pause to work on Novel #4—which has kind of scattered my focus, lol. I still kind of miss the characters in that story. Hopefully I can work on that one after I finish Novel #4. It's actually been a long time since I've had a slate of writing projects lined up. I can envision Novel #4 being the first part in a duology (or even more). I've often fallen into the pattern of starting to write one story, then switching to a new story halfway and abandoning the first idea, but my science fantasy idea is still floating around in my head.
