DO NOT WANT

I'm a sideline fan of Devil May Cry (points at icon). This morning, I got up, looked at some video game news, and found out about the DMC reboot.
So I was thinking, "Okay..."
Then I looked at the screenshots.
D: D: D:
WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO DANTE??!
He went from a snazzy half-demon in a leather coat to some...hipster punk??!

edit// I watched the trailer, and I have a few more things to say.
- I actually have a soft spot for psychological stuff in video games/stories. That part I don't particularly mind, I guess, but this is Devil May Cry we're talking about. Dante stands out from the average video game hero because he's smartmouthed, he's funny, and he's just cool. There's something in that devil-may-care attitude that's unique and fun. This Dante, on the other hand, seems like an angry badass emo kid, which we all know and are sick of. Just look at the character design--he looks like a drug addict with potentially a sadistic streak. Certainly the trailer seems to set up for a vengeance plot; cue angst, roaring rampages, and more angst. Heck, they even destroyed one of Dante's major symbols--his association with the color red.
- The enemy design looks awful.
- Dante has a scythe? Gee, how much more obvious can you get with the symbolism? And an extendable scythe? Don't tell me Ninja Theory didn't take a leaf out of that other Dante game (Dante's Inferno).
- What's up with all the graffiti, the smoking, the goth clothing, and the attempts to be "hip" with Punk Dante?? If Capcom is trying to make the game more "western," I think they're failing badly.
- Where is my stylish combat??! D: I don't want to see splatters of black blood and cigarette burns, give me the stylish combat, dammit!
- I thought Capcom was going to try to go head-to-head with Bayonetta (which, if I recall, sold well in the West). Evidently not.
I just have to say this again: The appeal of the preestablished Dante is that he beats up demons purely for the fun of it, laughing all the way and doing it in style. This Dante...is out to kill because he's psychologically not all there, apparently. Way to go to suck all the fun out of Devil May Cry, Ninja Theory. I wouldn't have minded if they just freaking didn't slap the DMC name on it and called the main character Dante. Dude, totally not cool.
