Vampire x vampire hunter romance: 20k / 50k? words
Earlier, I mentioned that I was afraid of committing to this project. I think I've decided to commit to it for the time being just because it's come far along enough. My plan is to finish this book as quickly as I can, skip the querying process, and submit directly to an indie queer publisher; I guess because my ambitions for this book are much less lofty than for my first novel, and this one is clearly more firmly situated as genre queer romance. In other words, I view it as a "less serious" project that I'm writing for the experience (and because I have writer's block with my other projects) and hoping to make a quick buck off of, I guess.
...Of course, nothing is set in stone until/unless I actually FINISH the thing. The lessons from my college years made a deep impression on me. I'm hopeful about this story because it's personally relevant to me, and I already have the ending mapped out. But...you never know. D:
...I had a version of this post, then forgot to post it this morning, and now everything has changed and stuff.
Initially, I rambled a bit about how this was usually the time when I started setting deadlines for myself as to when I'd finish the draft, and I set a tentative deadline for end of September for this novel, with hopes to finish editing/beta reading and submit to publisher(s) before November. However, I might have a job now, so everything has been thrown on the window.
Although, I might end up delaying when I start my job until later this year, but then there's bar exam prep, too...
Also, I'm not yet sure at this point whether the job is a punch-in, punch-out kind of job or whether it's more all-consuming (since, unfortunately, it's a law firm). I can handle writing while holding a punch-in, punch-out job, but not a totally consuming, you'll-probably-work-overtime job.
...I really do want to be a full-time author, but alas, those days are far away right now...
